Pareidolia
04:07
|
|||
pareidolia, with your head upon my lap on the buffalo grass
the clouds are moving fast
sippy, tell me what you see
“maybe it’s a baby
maybe it’s a cottonmouth swallowing its tail
that one looks like lady guadalupe with an airplane in her hair
it’s paradise
the sun is just a glow, though shade your eyes
there goes a phoenix with the last light”
baby, it’s an omen
let’s fly to puertecitos, where the five turns to sand
i’ve seen them burning statues of the virgin by the roadside
remember the time
you snuck in through the bathroom window
and waited for me there?
hidden in the shower for an hour
when i went to fill the tub
i found you wrapped in linens like a ghost
my heart froze, i fainted
fold me a rose
with that holiday napkin on the floor
as payment for your fortunes i predicted
you said “bite me, hell no
you’re lucky i don’t fold you boy!”
pareidolia
with your head upon my lap on the buffalo grass
the clouds are moving fast
sippy, tell me what you see

Candle
03:43
|
|||
innocence is a light beam
you’re doing your thing
with your arm out the window
up highway nine
when it’s too much to handle, burn me a candle
when you don’t have a candle
let me burn on your mind
the song of the sirens
caught up with me down wind
my nose started bleeding by the second note
heaven is a motel
with a telephone seashell
check out’s at eleven
and don’t ask for more time
did your eyes change?
i remember them blue
or were they always hazel?
still the same face, with a line or two
the same love i always knew
i try not to call, but i think i'm being followed
it's been about an hour or so
i hate for you to hear me scared
otherwise i'm well
i guess you're still the first place i go
did your eyes change?
i remember them blue
or were they always hazel?
still the same face, with a line or two
the same love i always knew

Second Sight
03:57
|
|||
go down to logan town, look up ruby bates
don't call the police, they won't help none
two tons of turtle doves, from out of state
just tell her i sent you, for the discount rate
my man with the moving van's looking for a job to do
he'll work for cheap, but he'll change you
blue eye on the left hand side, hazel on the right
he'll cut right through with the second sight
but i work for free
and love is all i need
yes i work for free
because love is all i need
oh no, my swimming hole is full of turpentine
it's raining mud from a bad sky
i can help to clean this up, but i don't think i'm qualified
we've got to find someone who can purify
but if you have a need of which you can't describe
a feeling of the third kind
that's my specialty, that's easy
we can draw up the plans of a new design
and i work for free
because love is all i need
yes i work for free
and love is all i need

Two Saviors
03:06
|
|||
pinwheel, it's a bad deal
falling upside down
man, may came soon
i hardly got to see you
sue, how are you?
slow dance, romance
come on joe, it's your last chance
and she won't catch you, man i’d bet you
she won't catch you when you fall
two saviors fighting over a soul
a black eye leaves a black hole
it seems the glass has cracked it's getting cold
"hold me, hold me joe"
new light, we had true sight
falling inward out
won't you recall, bonsai's on the dashboard?
a warm refuge from a cold storm
five eyes, those were bright nights
even orion's got a soft side
but he won't catch you, suzy i'd bet you
he won't catch you when you fall
two saviors fighting over a soul
a black eye leaves a black hole
it seems the glass has cracked, it's getting cold
hold me, hold me
"no, i need to be alone
to know my home
i know no home
but hold me, hold me joe"

Two Moons
03:02
|
|||
eyes behind eyes behind her eyes
i know them from before
maybe night skies golden
maybe desert doors
two moons rose today
and we slept until eight in the morning
mind behind mind behind my mind
one seed in the soil
maybe white apples glowing
maybe apple cores
two moons, full i'd say
at least full enough for saying
time behind time behind our time
i've held her before
maybe wildfires moaning
maybe summer storms
two moons show the way
through the wood early morning

Dream Daughter
03:53
|
|||
our dream daughter
candle on the altar
blue eye on the left
your mother’s brown on the right
you grew taller, taller than i am
in white light from her breast
i touched your hand
who are you?
who would you have been?
blue jay stuck in my kitchen
just cold water
the shadows getting longer
though bright nights hold my breath
for silver on the rise
i took all the blankets
and slept out in the yard
moon fall, i swear i saw gold behind the stars
who are you?
who would you have been?
blue jay stuck in my kitchen
fly away

Ham On White
02:07
|
|||
save me half of that sandwich annie
i haven't eaten since 1999
it's a miracle i'm alive
please spare my life with ham on white tonight
maybe you could let go of those potato chips you're hiding in your drawer
what are you hiding for?
i’d do anything
actually anything
i'd do anything, to the letter anything
i'd do anything, anything
i'd do anything
faithfully, anything

Cannonball! Pt. 2
04:04
|
|||
fireflies to show me around
every hole in new york town
my eyes are getting old
but i don’t mind the blue and gold
the blue and gold
up at hadley’s five and dime
ten years of killing time with sam and outside joe
black jack and egyptian rat
kick-the-can and the biscuit dance
our eyes are getting old
but we don’t mind the blue and gold
the blue and gold
“race you down to the well” said sue
“last one surrenders their family jewels,
you’re quick, but hunter i am too”
all the ways that she laughed
made me want to make her laugh
knock knock, no one’s home
i saw the dog of a drifter, out on the sidewalk yesterday
she said “hey sure i’m grateful, but how long do you think this walk will go?”
i don’t know
oh my jokes are getting old
“race you down to the well” said sue
“last one surrenders their family jewels,
you’re quick, but hunter i am too”

Pocketknife
02:23
|
|||
sparrows fight with a hawk in flight
the dippers fade away
slowly, sable turns to white
she left her sleeping bag behind
left her pocket knife
a watermelon and a lime
found a paper in my coat
forgotten months ago
she stole my lighter so i'll use the stove
saw a murder of crows move by
purple with the night
while starlings murmured to silent types
maybe august 29th
if i make it through july
thank god for coffee and apple pie

Halo Light
03:54
|
|||
the halo light was humble
our heather died
but tomorrow i’ll buy roses
nine hands high, little forest
o jenny, why did you tell the horses?
willow walls entwine you
your mother called
we spoke for seven hours
i found the hole you climbed through
but it’s too small to follow with the flowers
though all our love remains
so why do we feel sorrow?
pain came in seasons departed
our bodies left alone
all our love will stay
to live again tomorrow
woke at dawn, reminded of secret songs
by the warbler and the robin
i swear i heard you humming
in broken tongues through the curtain
faces form on our ceiling
a summer storm’s little arrows cross my chest
the sparrows mourn your leaving
with silent rises in their breasts
though all our love remains
so why do we feel sorrow?
pain came in seasons departed
our bodies left alone
all our love will stay
to live again tomorrow
